Darren English

For the past several months, JazzAthensGA has sponsored a series of intimate jazz performances at various venues around town, quietly working to grow an underrepresented segment of the music scene. Most frequently, they take place in The Globe’s charming upstairs space, which is where you’ll find trumpeter Darren English this weekend. A South African native and Atlanta resident, the young English’s playing has been lauded by critics for its crystalline tone and stylistic range. At Saturday’s show, he’ll be backed by local jazz outfit Trio Deluxe, featuring drummer extraordinaire John Norris and bassist Andrea DeMarcus of Cicada Rhythm, as well as Atlanta guitarist Dan Coy.
