Thom Strickland's various projects have always teetered between experimental reverberations and melody. Sing iDog is no different. Formed this past summer, Sing iDog features Strickland channeling Lou Reed as his vocals crawl steadily to the surface, otherwise buried beneath endless distortion. That's not to say that Sing iDog can't do subtle. The eerie cover of the Phil Spector-penned song "I Can Hear Music" (originally sung by The Ronettes and covered by The Beach Boys) is distant and meek, yet slightly twisted. Likewise, the fuzz of "Morning Dew" builds slowly, bending and warping slightly along the way. Once again, Strickland has created a sonic landscape for the aurally adventurous. Next show: Saturday, Nov. 1 at Tasty World for Space Rock Con.
