Romanenko

Although this band has been around in some form for three years, the current lineup is fresh for 2008. The "folk" influence is most evident in the literate, expressive lyrics that drive the music. With low-fi, mostly acoustic instrumentation, the spotlight really shines on Marston's breathy yet powerful vocals. Romanenko has a demo out now, which is apparently available in five different colors. Despite the tunes' more serious, weighty nature, the playful posters and creative, colorful release suggest the group has an equally strong sense of humor. Before choosing between the "rockin' red" or "galactic green" disc, you can get a preview of Romanenko's sound by tuning into WUGA for the "It's Friday!" program on May 30 when the band performs live.
