Formed in January of this year, this local band is grounded in the aesthetic that emerged from the early-'80s hardcore scene. "We like raw, stripped down rock music that has a life and an energy and an honesty to it," says Lewin.

Although the band began by writing three-chord, loud, fast rock music, Reeks of Failure has begun to expand and experiment outside the box, writing new tunes infused with funk and adding a "wistful ballad-like number" in the mix. The newer material, says Lewin, is more akin to Jawbreaker, The Lawrence Arms and other such acts.
