With a list of associated bands that's twice as long as the lineup itself, it's obvious the members of Half Dozen Brass Band have had a strong presence in the Athens music scene long before the band's formation in July. These talented horn players wail on tuba, sax, trumpet and trombone. This may be the first and only New Orleans brass band in town, playing both original tunes and classic covers. Half Dozen Brass Band offers the kind of celebratory music that lives in the streets of New Orleans and has no use for a stage. It's fitting, then, that the group made its debut with a lively downtown performance, kicking things up a notch on College Avenue.
