Finally, A U.S. Agenda That Europe Will Embrace: The honchos over at Kindercore Records have sent word from on high that The Agenda has inked a European deal with the label Must Destroy Music. They will be releasing a 7" single ("Crash, Crash," a cover of the Undertones classic "Teenage Kicks") soon with a full length to follow in April. This pushes the bands' European tour back to May 2003, when international travel will likely be a lot of fun. In other Kindercore news, they have announced the lineup of their South By Southwest showcase, which will be split with Atlanta's Velocette Records, at Austin's Emo's. The showcase will feature Jet By Day, Maserati, The Agenda, Paper Lions, Jucifer and The Party Of Helicopters. Dressy Bessy will also being playing which will give club-goers a chance to go outside and get some fresh air. I Am The World Trade Center will be playing SXSW also, but at an as yet undetermined show.
What War? I Don't See Nothin' But Deli Trays: Athens superstars R.E.M. have signed on as part of Musicians United To Win Without War, the music-industry adjunct of the Win Without War coalition. Other artists signed up to lend credence to the cause include Outkast, Sheryl Crow and Dave Matthews. A press conference announcing the coalition was held on February 27 with leaders of the "Does Anyone Remember Me" affinity group David Byrne, Lou Reed and Rosanne Cash.
I, Myself, Am A Taurus: Local act The Capricorns have been up to some really incredible stuff lately. Most recently they went out to Los Angeles to have a track produced by electronic maestro Tricky for an upcoming compilation of collaborations he's doing with female musicians. (As if this needed qualification, sex-bomb-superstar Peaches is also on this record!) The band also just finished up recording their second album, Go The Distance!, over at Radium Recording. This will be the follow up album to their debut In The Zone. The new album will be released by Banazan Records (banazan.com). Cool stuff folks, get yer ear to the ground and check them out.
About As Underground As It Gets: Looking for country music in Athens? I've gotten word from Athens music fan Amber Milner that you might want to start checking the listings for the VFW over on Sunset Drive. Local country act Country River has been blowing doors down over there and at the VFW in Toccoa, GA lately. The band has been around for 20 years and is comprised of the father and son team of Roger and Tim Thurmond. Guitarist and vocalist Bobby Moody has spent time in the hire of country stars Silvia and The Glazer Brothers and steel player Bill Ferguson will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame this year. The VFW is open to the public and has a very low cover and these guys apparently really put on a show. They are currently playing alternating weekends between the Athens and Toccoa VFWs. For more info on the band please call 546-4601 and you can contact the Athens VFW at 546-5978.

Some of 'Dis and Some Of 'Dat: Athens maestro Andy LeMaster has finished producing the debut album by Los Angeles band The Few, due to be released May 6. LeMaster is best known for his work with Bright Eyes, Azure Ray and his own Now, It's Overhead.
Oh, Holy Shit! What Do I Do Now?: Athens rockers Crystal Missle, much to the muted whines of a few people, have called it quits. However, fans can still get their fill of these guys via their new project Sociable Snake. The band has stated that "The Missle ran it's course." They have also commented that "Sociable Snake is an extension of what Crystal Missle was trying to do. That is bring a group of people together who rock and have a good time doing it." Somebody, bring me an aspirin.
Official Report: Every single attendee at Mission Of Burma's Echo Lounge show got their money's worth. Period.

On The Road Again: By the time you read this Casper & The Cookies will have returned from their Tallahassee, FL road trip with The Late B.P. Helium. But don't sweat it folks, both bands, plus Japan's wonderful Elekibass, will be here in Athens at The Ultramod Compound on Sunday March 8. Call 549-3781 for directions and info.
Make Up Your Own Mind: Billy Neilsen, of Athens band Exit Left, has let it be known that the Flagpole description of his band as "twangy alternative rock" is incorrect. Although he failed to inform us of a accurate description of his band, he encouraged people to attend one of his
