Turn That Frown Upside Down: Sometimes a band is offensive by nature, sometimes on purpose, and sometimes just by accident.

Get On The Screen: Baltimore's Oxes will be playing here at the Caledonia on Friday, April 23, and it's lining up to be a fairly significant event. Why? Well, because Oxes are recently back from taking a year off, they absolutely rock and it's also Chunklet Magazine's anniversary party. Also on the bill that night will be Liverhearts and Jane Fonda devotees Rump Posse.

Sometimes Stuff Takes A Long Time To Cook: And in this case it's slow cooked Barbe-Cue. After having David Barbe produce both their previous albums and currently work on their third, local band Barbara Cue has decided to share the stage with the man himself, along with his band The Quick Hooks. The show will happen Saturday, April 24, over at the fabulous 40 Watt. This will be the last local Barbara Cue show before the band heads off to certain fame at The Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN, where this year's lineup looks like a much-welcome change from the usual jam-band nightmare summer festivals are known for. Well, maybe not OzzFest. But still. Oh, the band has threatened to give away Barbe-Cued pork rinds or potato chips or maybe other stuff at the show, so if'n you're feeling hungry, you should do all right.
Go To This Place And Buy Some Stuff: It's time again for the semi-annual, or maybe even quarterly, Front Porch Record Sale. This happens, of course, over at record collector-music encyclopedia-drummer-enthusiast Kurt Wood's house. If you've never been to one of his sales, let me warn you that you will more than likely be floored by not only the selection, but the sheer volume of material he has for sale. Also, if you're sick to death of scrounging the bowels of eBay hell to find that rare item, chances are good that if it exists on vinyl, Kurt Wood has it. At any rate, the even will happen Saturday and Sunday, April 24 and 25. On Saturday the sale will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the hours are 12 noon to 5 p.m. The address is 1080 Oconee Street, and for more info you can call Mr. Wood at 546-9602.
How To Lose Friends And Irritate People: Deep inside many young rock fans is a desire to speak authoritatively or at least posture authoritatively. I should know - I've found quite a comfortable seat in the latter. Anyway, Athens resident Frank Reddy has recently published the first issue of Drums And Wires. Named after the seminal 1979 album by reclusive English rockers XTC. The digest-size fanzine's first issue features Circulatory System, Jucifer, Pacific UV, Bryan Poole many times over and a short tale about the joys of living in Athens. Apparently no one told Mr. Reddy that labeling oneself a "rock critic" or "rock journalist" is the practical equivalent of hanging a big sign around your neck that says "complaint department." Even so, I admire his willingness to give it all he's got in this effort. For more info please contact fwredd@hotmail.com.
This Just In at Dock No. 10: The guys who get together the Twilight Delirium party every year (see p. 28) are throwing a bash open to all the night before. Frilight, as it's been dubbed, goes down the night of Friday, April 23, so ask around downtown and look for the flyers. Performing: Weird Owl (Triple Velcro's Rippy and Michaelbrian do "insane dance karaoke"), half of rap duo Fairmount Fair (as the other half's off gettin' famous and makin' it happen with Elf Power), Space Wham (Ian Cone, formerly of Divorce and the Agenda, does the one-man band thing) and White Lady (playing New Wave-y synth pop). Super fun, this. [Chris Hassiotis]
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change: So Spike TV (y'know... for guys, as long as they like cars and tits and stuff) is looking to take you and make you better. The national station has put out the call: "Are you a local band in the Atlanta area that is willing to get a makeover on national television? Spike TV is looking for an alternative or hip hop group that is willing to participate in a reality show that will air this summer." So, get to crackin', folks. Email Shawn at otrcasting@yahoo.com for full details. [CH]
