Band members trickle back into Athens as Jim gets ready to rock on WFMU
originally published June 3, 2008
Tour’s over for most everybody – so keep an eye peeled on the Athens streets for various sunburned spacemen – but I decided to hang in NYC for a bit. Original plan was to relax with loved ones, hit Far Rockaway for a swim and drink red beers on Coney Island, catch some shows and just cruise around, decompressing and doing my thing. But things came up as they are wont to do, and I just couldn’t resist. So dig: WFMU, the fab “freeform” radio station in Jersey City offered us a radio spot; they wanted a full-on Soft Meat hootenany (like we did for VIVA radio INSIDE AN AMERICAN APPAREL SHOP IN PARK SLOPE, unnnhhh!; more on that later, though), but since I’m the only one around and am ecstatic with the proposition, I’ve decided to take it on. In lieu of my badly-missed bandmates, I’ve sweetened the deal for all involved by adding two of my all-time favorite guitar shredders: Colin from The Usa is a Monster and Matty from Nymph and Black Acid. This is gonna rip.
So keep an ear to the radio; they stream online at: www.wfmu.org. I’m really excited about it, and we’ve been putting it together these last couple late nights in Brooklyn, and it’s gonna be tripped out. The exact date of the radio show keep getting pushed back, but I'll let you know when things are confirmed.
I’ll be back at you soon with some thoughts on the end of tour, some gnarly stories from a couple Hippy Freak-Outs, sketches of our Canadian sojourn, and a list of the great unsung and over-sung bands around this land.
Meantime, just take my word and seek out the amazing Philly band The Po-Po. Best band since Black Pus, and one of the greatest True Psych bands I’ve ever in my life seen.
Kiss Dark Meat for me!
