"Project Logic" Featuring DJ Logic, Basement (Friday, September 28 - Georgia Theatre)
originally published September 26, 2001
Born and raised in the Bronx, the 29-year-old DJ Logic (born Lee Jason Kibler) spent his adolescent years in the front row of the hip hop revolution watching and listening to the first sounds of Grand Master Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, and other early-era pioneers. After establishing himself as a turntable wiz in the early '90s, he started collaborating with such jazz-groove luminaries as Jon Scofield, Joshua Redman, moe., and The Greyboy Allstars.
Doing his own thing with his own style, Logic has a unique place in this new-world DJ order. Says Logic: "Every good DJ has got his or her thing that makes them unique. I like to think my thing is just playing live music with real musicians, being a part of the band and being a good listener."
Logic's five-piece collection currently features himself on turntables, Casey Benjamin on woodwinds, Stephen Roberson drums, Mike Weitman on keyboards, and Lamont McCaine on bass. Look for the recent album, Presenting Project Logic on Ropeadope Records.

Men Of Porn (Thursday, September 27 - Caledonia Lounge)
originally published September 26, 2001
Hence Exhibit A: The Men's full-length debut Porn American Style (Man's Ruin), a sludge-ridden exploration of the power-chord which lands them somewhere in between the Melvins' mighty roar o' death and the acid-fried grime of early Butthole Surfers. Though on record MOP boasts ex-members of sonic heavies Acid King, Helios Creed and Ritual Device, the touring line-up has been reconfigured into a trio retaining RD's Timothy Moss (guitar/vocals) and ex-Acid King Brian Hill (bass) plus drummer Sean Tyler, formerly of Oakland, CA's El Dopa. In short, expect three sweaty hairy guys embodying a regimen of hard livin', dope smokin' and raunchy sex. If you can't relate, then tough titty. [Michael Andrews]

Richard Buckner, Anders Parker, Dave Marr (Wednesday, September 26 - Tasty World)
originally published September 26, 2001
Anders Parker is an Oregonian known for his project Varnaline, a mid-fi country-rock act in which he writes the songs and plays a number of different instruments. Jud Ehrbar (Parker's old bandmate in Space Needle) has been known to play drums, keyboards and sing in the band, too. Varnaline has released three albums and a slew of singles on the now defunct Zero Hour label. There is a new record entitled Songs In A Northern Key in the works.
Local baritone/tavernkeeper Dave Marr of Star Room Boys fame opens this show with an acoustic set of his own expressive country-ish tunes. Any fan of true-grit Americana songcraft should not miss this show. [BL]
