- DJ SIZZLE
- (Loft) Spinning the dance numbers every Wednesday.
- GEORGIA
- (Tasty World) Laid-back Southern Rock is the name of the game for this Atlanta five-piece. The guys go at it like Skynyrd or the Black Crowes, but there's a mellower Mellencamp/ Petty influence at work as well.
- KIP JONES
- (WOW Café) Many of Jones' own tunes split between the reflective acoustic territory of Harvest-era Neil Young and the country-infused rock of '80s-era Steve Earle. His newest album is called Downright. Every Wednesday.

- (Caledonia) Trucking its lively pop rock out of Washington, DC, Jukebox the Ghost has a melodic new self-titled album that's a little reminiscent of the Dismemberment Plan's quirkier moments.
- DAMIEN JURADO
- (40 Watt) Sweet-voiced and prolific Seattle singer Damien Jurado plays with sounds, from hauntingly lo-fi folk recordings to stuff incorporating found sounds or electric rock ideas. - (Chapel) Deejaying indie, underground and old school hip-hop every Wednesday night.
- NAPOLEON SOLO
- (Wild Wing Café) Napoleon Solo is the multitasking one-man-band who handles it all.
- NELO
- (Georgia Theatre) Nelo has that Dave Matthews Band, '90s-jam-rock sound (albeit with vocals leaning towards Ben Harper), but the music is tight enough and the songs exhibit enough brevity to land them more in the breezy, melodic pop-rock genre of Jack Johnson. After a few years in Athens, the guys moved back home to Texas earlier this year.
- OKKERVIL RIVER
- (40 Watt) Drawing on a banjo-fueled sound, this band's dark folk-infused rock tunes have much in common with the hootstomp of Tom Waits - if it were tempered with some Hammond organs and swirly atmospherics. Good stuff.
- PRIME TIME JAZZ
- (Porterhouse) Drummer Tony McCutchen, bassist Chris Enghauser and pianist Jim McKillip perform jazz standards for the dinner-and-a-drink set every Wednesday.
- SEEPEOPLES

- THE WINTER SOUNDS
- (Caledonia) Land of No Output is last year's local album from this impressively non-stop local band, just back from tour this week. -

- THE CARTRIDGE FAMILY

- CHRIS ENGHAUSER SUPER COMBO
- (Farm 255) Local jazz bassist Chris Enghauser leads this large and collaborative septet, which will include names familiar to local jazz fans: Kevin Hyde, Dave D'Angelo and Louis Romanos, among others. Expect horns, piano, bass and drums in the mix. "Sort of Art Blakey/ shuffle/ bebop three-horn arrangements with some originals," says Enghauser. 8 p.m.
- CRUMBLING ARCHES
- (40 Watt) Theatrical, over-the-top melodic rock from Atlanta's four-piece Crumbling Arches. Best feature? A capable rhythm section makes up for predictable "rock" vocals. The new full-length album is called The Somnambulist; see p. 32 for a review.
- DJ MAHOGANY

- ISHUES N THE MOVEMENT
- (Farm 255) In early 2004, versatile and progressive-minded emcee Ishues released Reality Flow; the impressive local release features powerful, off-the-cuff rhyming and a hard-edged lyrical style reminiscent of Talib Kweli. See p. 30 for info on his new album, Civil Unrest. Brennen Bennett (bass), Ryan Vogel (keyboard), Tony Delgado (drums), Lane Miller (guitar) and Harmon Hanson (guitar) make up the new live backing band, with DJ Bulldog Purp on turntables. See p. 30.

- TIMBER
- (Little Kings) Last year's full-length album from the local alt-country band is called Dark Heart… Lucky Hand. There've been some lineup shifts in the group recently; should be a rawer presentation of lead singer Daniel Aaron's wistful, fiery country pop. The brand-new album is For Never & Always.

- THE FLAT EARTH SOCIETY

- TRESOR HUGO
- (Tasty World Upstairs) The energetic Atlanta emcee puts as much thought into his stage presence as he does his nimble, thoughtful lyrical flow - the latter of which is at times reminiscent of Jay-Z or Lupe Fiasco. His much-advertised (look for the van plastered with garish ads driving around town) new album is According to My Flow, which he also self-produced.

- (WUGA, 91.7 FM) Every Friday at 4 p.m. Today's live-over-the-radio performance: Jessica Urick.

- (Allen's) Soulful acoustic folk-rock.
- SO MANY DYNAMOS

- STILL FLYIN'
- (40 Watt) Former Athenian Sean Rawls (ex-Masters of the Hemisphere) heads up this multi-member rocksteady/ reggae conglomerate. The members, who also play in any number of other bands, work together for feel-good Caribbean sounds (along with a little U-Roy-esque dub and ska) that's safe for the indie-rock kids to like. Za Cloud is the newest release. See p. 29.
- SWEET-TOOTH SIMPELTON & THE SIMPLETONES
- (Flicker) Local four-piece band Sweet-Tooth Simpleton & the Simpletones plays country with a tongue-in-cheek, quirky take on things. Working in banjo, mandolin, stand-up bass and lap steel, among other instruments; the debut disc is called Santana's Greatest Hits.

- UNKNOWN HINSON

- Saturday, Oct. 6
-
- !!!
- (40 Watt) Six years after its last appearance here in town, the disco-punk band pronounced "chk chk chk" comes back to the 40 Watt stage. - BLUES TRAVELER
- (Georgia Theatre) Probably still best-known for the upbeat, frenzied-harmonica ubiquity of its 1994 hit tune "Run-around," this long-running bluesy folk-rock act has hit numerous bumps in the road over the years, including the death of a bandmember and record label "restructuring." ¡Bastardos!, the most recent album, was released in 2005.
