- FOLKLORE
- (Caledonia) The fuzzy pop songs of Jimmy Hughes (Elf Power, Bugs Eat Books) find backing from Jon Croxton, Aaron Jollay, Ian Rickert, Raoul De La Cruz and David Specht. They're fresh back from a national tour, and the band'll play songs off its debut full-length album The Ghost of H.W. Beaverman, out recently.
- TINO GARRIDO
- (Casa Mia) The main vocalist for Orquesta Grogus focuses on classical guitar music from Venezuela, playing waltz and joropo music, but also Cuban son and flamenco. Every Wednesday at 8 p.m.
- JAY GONZALEZ
- (Kingpins) Nutria keyboardist-vocalist Jay Gonzalez has a new gig in town as a "lounge singer" and piano player. See Box.
- LESLIE HELPERT
- (Farm 255) Leslie Helpert, the local musician known alternately as "Serpentfly," performs a set of ambient electric guitar solo during dinner the dinnertime hours. 7 p.m.
- HEIDI HENSLEY & HOLLY BELLE
- (Little Kings) Local singer-songwriters Heidi Hensley and Holly Belle and their full band play the likes of Prince, Ozzy Osbourne, Journey and more. "It'll be a night full of rock and surprises," says Hensley, who'll welcome some new players to the stage.
- “KARAOKE”
- (Foxz) Every Wednesday.
- “KARAOKE”
- (Mell’s) Every Wednesday.
- GABRIEL KELLEY
- (Flicker) Gabriel Kelley Zorbanos (ex-Gabriel Young), Will Harrison and Jason Cheek (Rand Lines Trio, Watchtower) play heartfelt acoustic folk music informed by rustic country and Appalachian sounds. New EP out soon. 8:30 p.m.
- LADY JAYNE
- (Tasty World Upstairs) Four-piece Columbus, GA, rock band playing heavy late-'90s alternative rock.
- THE MARQUEE BLUES
- (Eastwood Pub) Formerly known as Disraeli Gears, The Marquee Blues features members of the Michael Guthrie Band and The 60s playing classic British blues-influenced rock like that of Clapton and Cream. Every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to midnight.
- ANGELA FAYE MARTIN
- (Flicker) There’s a playfulness in the lyrics of Angela Faye Martin, a Georgia musician currently based out of Franklin, NC. Her debut EP One Dark Vine is a sparse affair that lets her vocals shine, and her wry Southern storytelling recalls the clever turns of an early Vic Chesnutt. 8:30 p.m.
- PRIME TIME JAZZ
- (Porterhouse) Drummer Tony McCutchen, bassist Chris Enghauser and pianist Jim McKillip perform jazz standards for the dinner-and-a-drink set every Wednesday.
- ROCKBRIDGE
- (The Library) Stone Mountain trio Rockbridge plays acoustic American rock, sounding a good bit like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
- SACRED HOLLOW
- (Tasty World Upstairs) This new band features local guys Brett Clanton, Dustin Veal, Skip Pettigrew, Ben Fitzpatrick and Travis Cole; normal “rock” singing with some occasional screamy intensity tops off early-’90s melodic rock that incorporates some proggy metal influences.
- SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT BOB
- (Tasty World Upstairs) Also known as S.T.A.B., this Athens/ Lawrenceville group plays mid-'90s-sounding, grunge-influenced hard rock.
- SHITKICKER
- (Tasty World) Newly local, Shitkicker just moved down to Athens from North Carolina. The four-piece is recording some tracks over at DARC, and the tunes tend towards blue-collar rock, not unlike an early Social Distortion - though sometimes with more twang, sometimes with more guitar soloing.
- SUMMER HYMNS
- (Caledonia) Zachary Gresham, Philip Brown, Chris Riser and Bryan Nuse play psychedelic-tinged Neil Young-y pop-rock that hinges more on simple chord progressions and vocal melodies, and if you’re a fan of the Flaming Lips, you’ll find much to like about ’em as well. The killer new album is called Backward Masks.
- QUIET HOOVES
- (Caledonia) Julian Bozeman, Patrick Bozeman and Mercer West, among others, team up in Quiet Hooves, pulling some songs from the Bozemans' old band Kamikaze Headband and adding some new songs to the mix. "Folk, semi-psychedelic, semi-experimental, semi-comedy, semi-sleepy pop from tons of little toy instruments," they say.
- TWIN POWERS
- (Go Bar) Danceable New Wave and Britpop tunes. 10 p.m., every Wednesday.
- “UNCORKED & UNPLUGGED”
- (Melting Point) Every week this series focuses on local and national artists proficient in the craft of songwriting, with a rotating crew taking the stage each time around. This week: Little Francis, Bart King and Bain Mattox. Every Wednesday, 8 p.m.
