- GOOD-BYE DONOVAN
- (Tasty World) With Emmie Beretta on vocals, guitar and keys, Neal Nelson on bass, Carter Boss on guitar and Casey Kelly on drums, this new Athens band plays rock and roll with a little country pop on some songs, a lot more bratty anthemic punk on others.
- GRAVEL UNDERTONE
- (Tasty World) Atlanta's Sean Thompson (vocals, guitar), Theo Carnavos (bass), Ben Manning (drums) and Hiroko Matsuda (violin) play wide-ranging rock influenced by a good amount of experimental metal.

- (Mercury Lounge) Local jazz saxophonist Mike Jones has performed under this name for years, and is starting up a weekly Monday-night gig with a revolving cast of supporting backers. 8 p.m.
- LONG LEGGED WOMAN
- (Detour) Vaguely drony and mostly noisy, the duo of Gabe Vodicka and Justin Flowers plays music that's half-improvised, half-composed, and any given performance is rarely like the band's last one. The duo last year put out the debut EP called 1 and is featured on a new Athens noise-music comp, and a new EP called Newtown Nights - the band's fifth - should be available.
- THE OHSEES
- (Detour) San Francisco's Ohsees - John Dwyer, Patrick Mullins, Brigid Dawson, Petey Dammit and Jigmae Baer - play clanky, jangly, experimental and damn intriguing tunes. Sucks Blood is the newest disc, and you can read some thoughts on it over on p. 29.
- “OPEN MIC NIGHT”
- (Eastwood Pub) Every Monday.
- OURS
- (Melting Point) In a strange move for this venue, Ours is a heavily melodic rock band from New Jersey that swings between pummeling indie-rock guitar work and the yowly falsetto vocal breakdowns of frontman Jimmy Gnecco. He's backed by four guys calling themselves Locke, Static, Pit and Race.
- RACK OF SPAM
- (Ashford Manor) This regional eight-piece group got its start here in Athens; with more than two decades in the business, the group’s Detroit-style R&B and blue-eyed soul still sounds powerful. Formed in 1981, the band celebrated its 25th anniversary last fall. "Same people, same music," says the band, "with maybe a few surprises thrown in for no extra charge."
- TOTALLY MICHAEL
- (Detour) Using a guitar, a microphone and a laptop, one-man band Michael Dunlap, from Bloomington, IN, plays furiously infectious dance-party pop. New EP is called For You.
- THE VINYL STRANGERS
- (Tasty World) These scene vets - guitarist-vocalist Joe Guerzo, new bassist Tim Adams, guitarist-vocalist Reid Howland and drummer Ian Werden - released their new band’s self-titled debut album last June, and it’s a classic-sounding pop rock record reminiscent of early Beatles and Byrds.
- Tuesday, May 8

- (Melting Point Patio) Can you call it Americana when the artist is Canadian? Anyway, Tia McGraff pulls on traditional folk and upbeat country to adopt a soothingly acoustic approach to pop. Day in My Shoes is the new album. 7 p.m.
- MR. BROWN
- (Mercury Lounge) Spinning classic hip-hop on the turntables and working into more party-oriented sounds as the night progresses.
- NATE NELSON & CORTRIGHT
- (40 Watt) This young local singer-songwriter is already an old pro at these soulful acoustic gigs, and Nelson’s songs are crowd-pleasing and easily accessible. Last year's EP is A Sing-Song Fashion, and he's been branching out recently, contributing piano and guitar skills to several bands in town. Cortright is his backing band of Ian Werden on drums and Jay Rodgers on bass and backing vocals. A benefit for Children's Tumor Foundation; see p. 33.
- “OPEN MIC NIGHT”
- (DT’s) Every Tuesday.
- RUSSIAN SPY CAMERA
- (Tasty World) Ryan White (guitar, vocals) and Andy Turner (drums, vocals) last year recruited musician McGregor Button, drawing in influences from rock, hip-hop and electronic music. - SLEEPY HORSES
- (Caledonia) Nic Goodson's band Sleepy Horses specializes in alt-country rockers and feedback- and loop-laced shoegazey soundscapes. - "TASTY TUESDAY"

- THE GREEN HORNETS
- (Tasty World) Locals Meredith McLucas (vocals, guitar), Jenny Culler (bass, vocals) and Bryan McLucas (drums, vocals) debut their new pop band tonight.
- GUFF
- (40 Watt) This non-stop local punk quartet’s most recent disc Engine Trouble harkens back to the Lookout Records sound of about a decade-and-a-half ago, with a sense of fun amidst the noise. The band's been out in California recording an upcoming album; Symphony of Voices should drop in June. Part of tonight's "Randy Unplugged" benefit.
- GUTSHOT & THIRSTY

The latest album is the powerful Send More Paramedics. Part of tonight's "Randy Unplugged" benefit.
