Following a bout of obscurist interest, the disc was reissued in 2004. Following that, Fat Cat Records released the EP Prospect Hummer, a collaboration between Bunyan and experimental rock act Animal Collective, in 2005. The new full-length from Bunyan, Lookaftering, hit later that same year, reviving her inviting voice with pastoral melodies and evocative songs. This is her first U.S. tour.

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM PHASE TWO
(40 Watt) Led by main songwriter Will Cullen Hart - alongside various musicians including John Fernandes and Peter Erchick (all formerly of Olivia Tremor Control) - the Circulatory System blasts through psychedelic, elliptical pop songs which can sometimes run in circles, and the System’s at its best with its dual-drum charge. The killer new album is called Backward Masks.
THUNDERCHIEF
(Tasty World) “We play classic rock-influenced punk, or punk-influenced classic rock,” says the band, which last year wrapped recording sessions on a debut album. “Whichever way you wanna look at it.” New vocalist recently added, reportedly moving things more towards the West Coast hardcore sound. Every Wednesday, 8 p.m.

DON CHAMBERS
(40 Watt) Local guitarist-banjoist Don Chambers gets a lot of comparisons to Tom Waits, but that doesn’t quite hit the mark. THE SHOW IS THE RAINBOW

(Georgia Theatre) Vocalist-accordionist-songwriter Sanni Baumgärtner leads this local ensemble through a theatrical, sultry and brassy set of authentic German cabaret music from the 1920s and ’30s, with some original tunes thrown in as well. This is only the third Athens show since Baumgärtner moved back home to Germany in 2005, and tonight new bassist Chuck Bradburn (Southern Bitch) joins the team.
BLUELINE
(Tasty World) This Athens/ Albany blues-rock four-piece released a demo album titled My Own Backyard in August of 2004; a proper full-length has been in the works for a while.
DAN NETTLES TRIO
(Farm 255) Guitarist Dan Nettles, the heart and brain of local jazz expeditioners Kenosha Kid, tonight heads up a trio to present his sounds.
8-TRACK GORILLA & THE LOVE HANDLES
(Georgia Theatre) The schtick is this: local scenester and music dude dresses up in a gorilla costume and "sings" along to '70s-era 8-track tapes. More of a thing around the turn of the millennium and just prior, the Ape's back tonight with his backing vocalists and dancers The Love Handles to… entertain?
THE EARLY NOVEMBER
(UGA, Georgia Hall) The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path is the ambitious new sophomore full-length from Jersey's The Early November. The album is a three-disc album out on Drive Thru Records, and it's as full as can be of the five-piece band's anthemic, melodic, singalong-ready emo-rock. The kids dig it, y'know? This appearance at the University's Tate Student Center is the first of two college stops before the band begins its headlining national tour with The Rocket Summer and Melée. 8 p.m.
“KARAOKE”
(Eastwood Pub) Every Tuesday, 9 p.m.
“KARAOKE”
(Walker’s Pub) Every Tuesday, 10 p.m.
“KARAOKE”
(Wild Wing Café) Every Tuesday, 10 p.m.
KIMBERLY MORGAN & THE EVERLOVIN' BAND
(Georgia Theatre) Local lady Kimberly Morgan sings sweet country songs, calling to mind Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. She should have the debut album Found Yourself a Lady, recorded with her Everlovin' Band, ready in the next several months.
“LIVE FAST RULES”
(WUOG, 90.5 FM) Live and loud performance on the radio every Tuesday at 10 p.m. This week: Ground:Xero.
MAD WHISKEY GRIN
(Mercury Lounge) Alternating between 12-string guitar and banjo, local musician Frank Williams slides and fingerpicks his way through bluesy and decidedly American sounds.
MANDY JANE & THE JAWS OF LIFE
(Georgia Theatre) The original uranium miner’s daughter Amanda Crouse heads up this tongue-in-whiskey-soaked-cheek country’n’western-inspired act. Ken Manring works the guitar as the duo swings through original tunes and perhaps a choice cover or two.
MILLIGAN
(Melting Point) Performing a set of cover songs, reworking both classic rockers and more recent numbers.
“OPEN MIC NIGHT”
(DT’s) Every Tuesday.
RECYCLED SHOTGUNS
(Tasty World) Local country-rock four-piece.
"TASTY TUESDAY"
(Tasty World) Rap and spoken word performances over relaxed beats and the sounds of jazz, R&B and hip hop. Upstairs.
“TUESDAY NIGHT JAZZ”
(Farm 255) Every Tuesday, 7–10 p.m., the downtown restaurant features jazz from a revolving cast of regulars.
Wednesday, Feb. 14
BITCH SWITCH
(Chapel) Mandy Jane, AKA DJ Repramanda, and Sandice Adina, AKA DJ Sandelous, spin thick dance grooves at tonight's party sponsored by Michael Lachowski's new art mag Young, Foxy & Free; the debut issue features a fashion spread of the deejay duo.
KEVIN DEVINE
(40 Watt) Bringing to mind a variety of indie songsters, Brooklyn's Kevin Devine sounds most like a merging of Ben Gibbard and Elliott Smith. Devine's new album is called Put Your Ghost to Rest, and tonight he headlines backed by the members of opening band Pablo.
DJ MAHOGANY & DJ STRAWBERRY JULIUS
(Little Kings) Following tonight's Valentine's Day performance by local burlesque troupe Effie's Club Follies, your deejay duo drops the sonic bomb with tunes ranging from danceable garage rock classics to girl-group stunners and from nasty funk to sweet, sweet soul.
DJ SIZZLE
(Loft) Spinning the dance numbers every Wednesday.
TINO GARRIDO
(Casa Mia) The lead vocalist for Grogus performs solo at the new downtown tapas restaurant, singing songs from Cuba and Venezuela as well as other more popular Latin American songs. Musical styles will include son, bossa nova and Venezuelan joropo. 8:30 p.m.
JAMIE McLEAN BAND
(Tasty World) As guitarist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jamie McLean is skilled in funky, jazzy constructions. Fronting his own band and backed by Carter McLean (drums, percussion), Derek Layes (bass) and Jon Solo (organ, piano, keyboards), however, he delivers dirty, blues-based rock on the album This Time Around.
“KARAOKE”
(Foxz) Every Wednesday.
“KARAOKE”
(Mell’s) Every Wednesday.
KOUFAX
(40 Watt) Midwestern five-piece rock band Koufax plays it hard and fast on the 2005 album Hard Times Are In Fashion. The driving, passionate and bombastic New Wave-influenced tunes should appeal to those looking to satisfy a Depeche Mode or Killers fix.
MELVIN MATHURIN JAZZ TRIO
(Mercury Lounge) The local lineup of Melvin Mathurin (alto sax), Louis Romanos (drums) and Rob Handly (bass) swings through a set of live jazz. 8 p.m.
"MOTOWN DOWNTOWN"
(Melting Point) The evening's Valentine's Day celebration runs through top-notch renditions of the classics from local party bands The Splitz and Common People Band. You can simply come to tonight's show, but you can also buy special dinner-and-a-show-and-even-a-night-at-the-hotel packages; check the Point's website for details.
THE MOVEMENT
(Georgia Theatre) Guitarists Josh and Jordan play hook-heavy rock, pulling all beats and rhythm out of deejay Jon’s beatbox. The South Carolina trio released its debut album On Your Feet in 2004.
JENNIFER O'CONNOR
(40 Watt) In August, Matador Records will release Over the Mountain, Across the Valley, and Back to the Stars, the fourth album from the former frontwoman of Atlanta band Violet. Comparisons to Elliott Smith, David Berman and Liz Phair are appropriate for the emotional, creative rock she produces, whether solo or with a trio. There's also a new EP out called Another Side of Jennifer O'Connor. See Box.
“OPEN JAM”
(DT’s) Bring your instrument and join in. For more information, call 706-208-1474.
PABLO
(40 Watt) Based around the songs of New York songwriter Paul Schalda, the band Pablo plays heart-strumming, bluesy acoustic songs enhanced by solid keys and a full sound. The guys from Pablo are also acting as backing band for tonight's headlining act Kevin Devine.
PRIME TIME JAZZ
(Porterhouse) Drummer Tony McCutchen, bassist Chris Enghauser and pianist Jim McKillip perform jazz standards for the dinner-and-a-drink set every Wednesday.
TWIN POWERS
(Go Bar) Danceable New Wave and Britpop tunes. 10 p.m., every Wednesday.
THE WAILERS
(Georgia Theatre) Jamaican pros The Wailers have frequently shifted identities, sometimes favoring the big-band sound of the Skatalites or the rootsier, more soulful ska and reggae of Toots & The Maytals. (And Bob Marley’s shadow lingers still!) Where the Wailers have always excelled, however, is in live performance of both classic and current songs and in the transcendence of temporary, temporal concerns.
JASON “LEFTY” WILLIAMS
(Amici) One-armed Atlanta guitarist Jason “Lefty” Williams turns out electrified rock, delving into funk, country and jazz covers and originals, either solo or with a backing band. Big Plans is the debut album out now.
