- ALEX ORANGE
- (Boar's Head) The native Savannah acoustic guitarist-harmonicist Nathan Sheppard has long been a fixture on the regional folksy singer-songwriter scene. Sheppard is known for his emotive singing style and his modern reworkings of classic tunes, from Dylan and Young to Van Morrison. His current release, out on Lost Cat Records, is the live album Carried Away: An Evening With Nathan Sheppard. Alex Orange, named after a song on his 2001 album Traveling On, is Sheppard's new full band.
- DJ BOBBY C
- (Loft) Local deejays Blaze and Bobby Casille drop tonight’s dance tunes for your feet and your ass.

- THE ERIC DODD BAND
- (Tasty World) Greensboro, GA singer-songwriter Eric Dodd and his backing band of Tom DuPree and Bill Peters play passionate, driving, plain-old rock and roll.
- GREEDY WHITE CITIZENS
- (The Library) This Atlanta band says it’s “a no bullshit, in-your-face and loud hard rock band… with a bonecrushing songlist powered by the cutting-edge structure of guitar licks.” The band recently celebrated the release of its debut album Stereotype.
- GREG & THE GRUNTTONES
- (DT’s) You’ll find a heavy blues influence on the long-running local five-piece’s 1999 release The Coral.
- HOLMAN AUTRY BAND

- “KARAOKE”

- "KARAOKE"

"Our style is Americana, country rock, Southern rock," says Hagood. "[Don and I] have played together for the last four years, just never in the same band at the same time."

- RUSTWOOD
- (Eastwood Pub) Formerly known as The Husbands, this local trio performs a set of its rootsy, catchy tunes, usually mixing both acoustic and electric performances.
- COREY SMITH
- (Georgia Theatre) Local singer-songwriter Corey Smith released his debut album Undertones in 2003. Drawing heavily from blues and R&B, Smith exhibits an everyman persona that recalls the populist appeal of a Jimmy Buffett if he were folksier and a little more country. The new album is called The Good Life, and on its strengths, Smith recently won the 2006 Flagpole Athens Music Award for Best Solo Singer/ Songwriter. Tonight's show is sold out.
- THE TIKI BARFLYS

Some songs that have seen duty in our "normal" projects… He'll sing some. I'll sing some. We'll both play guitars, both normal and resonophonic. A nice diversion on the night after the day of giving Thanks for turkeys and family and such." 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 25
-
- ATTICUS HICKS BAND
- (DT's) With Atticus Hicks on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, the Atticus Hicks Band is drummer Michael Vilardo, bassist Daniel Webster and lead guitarist Paul Willoughby, and they play rock geared towards Dave Matthews and John Mayer fans.
- BEYOND TOMORROW
- (40 Watt) Athens quartet Patrick Hoydar (vocals, guitar), Steve Gagnier (guitar), Phil Goodwin (drums) and Alec Wooden (bass) play pop-savvy emo-rock songs pretty much guaranteed to weaken girls’ knees. New recordings wrapped up earlier this summer in Chicago, and the debut album is the self-titled full-length disc Beyond Tomorrow.
- DJ BLAZE
- (The Library) DJ Blaze, who has held down the wheels of steel at The Annex and this past summer's "Classic City Hip-Hop," hosts tonight's dance party, mixing contemporary hip hop with older favorites and some unexpected forays into other genres. Late-night dancing following tonight's band.
- DON CHAMBERS
- (Caledonia) Local guitarist-banjoist-bartender Don Chambers gets a lot of comparisons to Tom Waits, but that doesn’t quite hit the mark. Chambers’ songs have the closing-time chic of Waits, sure, but there’s a dusty theological lyrical undercurrent of sin and salvation that’s more in line with Johnny Cash or Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous.
- DIRK & TONY
- (Melting Point) Dirk Howell and T. Graham Brown began singing together in Athens in 1973, playing easy-going, party-friendly beach music that grew out of the boogie- and R&B-influenced '50s and '60s. Tonight's a reunion show. See Box.
- “DISCO NIGHT”
- (Stan’s Bar & Grill) DJ Thurmond is in charge of bringing you R&B dance numbers, with a healthy dose of old-school disco.
- DJ JOHNNY D

- (Little Kings) Wyatt Nicholson spins tracks from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m., focusing on stuff like Suicide and Califone early on and later goes more upbeat with selections from Girl Talk, Contortions and rap and dub.
- DRIVIN' N' CRYIN'
- (Georgia Theatre) Recently, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ frontman Kevn Kinney has been mixing the amiable jangle and charm of that band’s earlier work with the more personal, direct type of songwriting that has made his solo releases strong. Tonight Kinney fronts his classic claim to fame, playing jangly Southern alt-pop as the group delves into romantic folk and bluegrass as easily as it kicks out gritty guitar rock.
- DUELING PIANO GUYS
- (The Library) Raucous dueling pianos from Atlanta guys Mark Kovaly and Cliff Holcomb. Expect some Ray Charles, Elton John and Billy Joel as well as a variety of other tunes from the duo's wide repertoire.
- FANCIE
- (Caledonia) Elisabeth Wood, AKA Fancie, delivers smooth vocals in the urban folk genre that recall Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, blending in country and blues. Stranger to None is Fancie's newest album (released last year), and it's strange, entrancing and really good. Tonight's the first of a three-night solo stint in Athens; she's at Transmet tomorrow and Tasty World on Monday.
- HAMELIN
- (40 Watt) Alabama four-piece Hamelin plays soulful, smooth rock music. There's a lot to like for fans of melodic bands like Counting Crows, Collective Soul and Dave Matthews. The debut album is called Paintings on the Wall.
- HOLIDAY
- (40 Watt) New local rock five-piece featuring former members of Letters to Holden and Left Front Tire. The guys have been recording demos over the summer, and the songs sound to be a little more anthemic and melodic than most of today's pop-punk stuff.
- JAZZ ENIGMA
- (Mercury Lounge) Virgin Islands native and Athens resident Melvin Mathurin (alto-sax) completes the jazz tripod with the bass/ drum combo of Carl Lindberg (double bass) and Louis Romanos (drums/ percussion). They say: "Monk Cannonballed Coltrane on Hancock 4 Miles, so Parker got Shorter and Dizzy. This is JAZZ." 8 p.m.
- JOSH TAYLOR BAND

- (Go Bar) The house deejay spins a cool mix of disco, New Wave and modern dance tunes for a sweaty and energetic crowd. Every Saturday, 10 p.m.
- TIM MILLER
- (Boar’s Head) This guitarist performs an acoustic set of his country-flavored tunes, often backed by a couple musical buddies.

- TODD SNIDER
- (Georgia Theatre) Since debuting in 1994 with the Songs From the Daily Planet album and its “hidden” accidental single “Seattle Grunge Rock Blues," wide-ranging Texan Todd Snider has crafted a style of songwriting that might run greatly amiss were it not for his sense of humor and focus on live performance. His new album is The Devil You Know, and it's reviewed over on p. 27.
- THRASHER & MAUTZ
- (J.R.’s Baitshack) A set of acoustic covers and originals from the local duo of John and Matt.
- VERSATILIANS
- (DT's) Chuck Lambert, Jonathan Croft, Jeni Lambert and Mark Brill hail from Monroe and tonight bring a scattershot collection of original songs ranging from acoustic folk-rock to dirty blues-rock, working in covers of folks like the Stones, Pink Floyd and Tom Petty (and even former Athenian Jennifer Nettles).
- FRED WEAVER
- (Caledonia) Backed by bassist John Sullivan, guitarist John Wygle and drummer Matt Heroman, Louisiana's Fred Weaver - a prodigious show taper in Baton Rouge, by the by - recently released the album Five Digit Land, a selection of emotional, melodic and energetic indie rock that's getting the Fugazi comparisons.
- Sunday, Nov. 26
-
- PETER ALVANOS & FRIENDS

Stranger to None is Fancie's newest album released last year, and it's strange, entrancing and really good. Tonight's the second of a three-night solo stint in Athens; she's at the Caledonia on Saturday and Tasty World tomorrow.
- MARTYR & PISTOL
- (Transmetropolitan) Playing an eerie, almost ominous mix of dramatic torch-pop, noise-rock and demento chamber music, this unpredictable local trio of Kera Schaley (cello, guitar, vocals), Brent Van Daley (guitar) and NYC drummer Mitchell King hasn't performed in town since late 2003, except for a brief ATHICA appearance early last year. The band spent some time recording last month, but who knows when a live show will happen again?
- Monday, Nov. 27
-
- BLING THE CHILDREN BACK HOME
- (40 Watt) Local hip-hop with a strong love of fun and tongue firmly planted in cheek (sometimes); the rap stylings aim for humor, although the music is strongly grooving and based in funk. New recordings have been underway for some time now, and the band was the winner of the 2006 Flagpole Athens Music Award for Best Hip Hop / Rap Act. Part of tonight's fundraising rally in support of mayoral candidate Heidi Davison; the runoff election is next week.
- RANDALL BRAMBLETT
- (40 Watt) Randall Bramblett presents a simplified, direct slab of Southern music. Either blowing the sax or delivering his gruff’n’grumbly vocals, Bramblett can toss out Southern R&B kickers with the best of 'em. Part of tonight's fundraising rally in support of mayoral candidate Heidi Davison; the runoff election is next week.
- DON CHAMBERS
- (40 Watt) Local songwriter Don Chambers performs tonight as part of tonight's fundraising rally in support of mayoral candidate Heidi Davison; the runoff election is next week. Chambers will have some musicians with him, although likely not his full backing band GOAT.
- DISTASTER
- (Tasty World) Jon Lester (ex-Refuse Factory, Radio:Tahiti) showcases his solo project Distaster, and has in the past recruited some buddies for musical accompaniment. Think a pop-oriented Gary Numan, or harder-edged Kraftwerk with slightly Bowie-styled vocals. See Box.
- THE 8-TRACK GORILLA
- (Tasty World) The schtick is this: local scenester and music dude Kenny Aguar dresses up in a gorilla costume and "sings" along to '70s-era 8-track tapes. More of a thing around the turn of the century/millennium and just before, the Ape's back tonight to… entertain?
- FANCIE
- (Tasty World) Elisabeth Wood, AKA Fancie, delivers smooth vocals in the urban folk genre that recall Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, blending in country and blues. Tonight's the third of a three-night solo stint in Athens; she's at the Caledonia on Saturday night and Transmet on Sunday night.
- PATTERSON HOOD
- (40 Watt) A member of the Holy Trinity of the Drive-By Truckers songwriter-guitarists-vocalists, Patterson Hood has a way with a story. - Wednesday, Nov. 29
