It is time again for the annual event that allows a comprehensive gastronomic tour of Athens over the course of a single evening. Over 50 local restaurants will offer up the finest Athens has to offer at this year’s A Taste of Athens. Proceeds from the event will once again benefit Community Connection of Northeast Georgia. Visit www.communityconnection211.com to learn more about the non-profit's work to help direct resources and services to those in need.
Offerings will reflect the full diversity of Athens cuisine and include appetizers, main course samplings, beverages and desserts. The event also features a silent auction. This year’s auction includes a wide array of donations up for bid including gift certificates, art, jewelry, travel packages and signed items from local bands.
Chef Lamar Thomas of East West Bistro will host the event’s Red Clay Chef Competition, which pits local chefs against each other in an “Iron Chef”-style culinary showdown. Squaring off this year will be Emilee Greer of the Daily Neighborhood Deli and Antonio Spadea of La Dolce Vita, who will each use their ingenuity to incorporate a special ingredient into a dish on the fly and attempt to win over a panel of judges. Vendors will also vie to be awarded the Best Food, Best Beverage and People’s Choice prizes.
Tickets are $50 at the door or can be purchased in advance for $45 at Aurum Studios, Jittery Joe’s, Borders, Homeplace Gifts, La Dolce Vita, Maison Bleu, Marti’s at Midday, the Daily Neighborhood Deli, The Rolling Pin and online at www.tasteofathens.com.
A Taste of Athens runs from 6-9 p.m. in the Center's Grand Hall.
